hey Amanda, so you are a trance girl eh? I'm a techno girl, not into trance... but I can see how the beat motivates you. I too get my motivation from music. Nothing else can do what the right tune does... (up)

I thought I had completed a big chunk of my literature review on my first year, but I recently had to re-write it all. In fact I am re-writing everything even so close to my submission deadline (not just amending). My first two year's of research is useless to my thesis (well, it is very useful because it made me move on to today, but not using any material from those days whatsoever).
I guess the way you use your time depends on type and topic of a project. Mine has changed great deal, it is no longer what I started it to be. But it was always my own project, and the funding I received wasn't conditional to be part of a research team etc.
Good luck with your work.
I've been living happily ever after with Endnote for years. Only tonight it suddenly decided to act differently and I don't know how to bring it back to its usual. I'd appreciate your help:
Normally in Microsoft Word every time I insert a citation via CWYW, word places proper formatted citations (in brackets, date-author). Today for some reason, in the middle of the document it started inserting them as temporary citations. Unless I go to edit and select remove individually, those citations remain as temporary. How can I go back to how it was before and just insert formatted citations?
So it used to place directly as (Hallett, 1997) now it inserts as {Hallett, 1997 #252}
hey Amanda, great to hear that it has some use...
Yeah, I think I know what you mean. The inspiration comes from all sorts of places I guess. I work better when I'm either very happy, or very upset. Always extremes :-)
Good luck with your writing up. Please let us know how it goes. I find reading about good achievements very helpful. Makes me realise that I too can do it if I try. I am guessing good stories would help others too.
Ah I remember this very well from my office-days. I've been working from home for a while now, but this time flatmate's "I'm bored, why can't you entertain me' sighs from next door and him cooking smelly food bothers me. The thing is, no matter what they do we will be annoyed unless we sort out the underlying issues. No ear plug will stop the problem. In my case, I don't want to have a flatmate but I have to (can no longer afford living on my own etc etc, and I work great when I'm on my own, with another person's existence in the house I put myself in a 'waiting' mode. Waiting for him to stop cooking, waiting for him to leave, waiting for him to go to bed... anything that resembles being alone finally.
In your case Satchi, I might be wrong, but perhaps you're angry with something else? Either the simple fact of having to share the office, or not achieving some of the goals you thought you would by now etc etc. It might even be that something in your colleague's personality clashes with yours.
I'm sure we are more tolerant to people that we like or we don't have any issues with. Things that bother us are usually our own hidden agenda.
I wish you good luck with sorting that out...(up)
I hope you'll be able to go. But if worst happens, contact the organisers and ask if they have a Wiki site or something similar for you to upload your poster as a digital file. That way your work will at least take part and people will be able to access it.
Thanks Amanda, good points. I've been using EndNote for references so hopefully it won't let me down.
But now that you mentioned tables etc, I could perhaps ask something I've been meaning to ask on a separate thread. I have asked for permission for images and tables that are not mine, to include in my thesis. I can't seem to get any replies from one person with regards to using their image for months now. Quite an important image, can't decide to keep in or out. Hmmm. Any ideas?
I only have 2 months left to submission, hence my panic. thanx
