I am very interested in the regenerative medicine and I am in the search of a laboratory that works in this field. Maybe somebody could advice such a laboratories or maybe there are people with the same interest so we could search together?

I am searching for an advice what to do in my situation.
I found a PhD program that was very interesting to me. But after the personal interview I received a letter that I was not accepted and that I was placed in the waiting list. Though 1 week has passed and no news yet. I suppose that I am not going to get a place in the program.
But what can I do if I really like the place and research groups to which I applied? I heard that some people, which were not accepted, write directly to the interesting groups.
What is the usual strategy in similar situations?
