thank you for your replies. The specific field is marine pollution; at the moment nor BBRSC and NERC have any funding opportunity. May be NERC studentship are limited to British citizens?

Last september a UK university offered me a Ph.D. position......but I have to wait until I will find funding for my scholarship!!!!!
The problem is that months are passing fast and I am starting to be afraid I will not find nothing in the next months!!!
The offer is open until next september.
Any advice?
P.S. I am from Italy and the field is biology/environment

If you do a tought program (Master) in a UK university, and then a PhD in the same place or lab, can you do 2 years of PhD instead of 3? Is it possible?

I think doing a Ph.D. without funding is almost a folly!!!
After many years of study you should not pay to work!!!!If the University can not provide you any funding they should not offer you a position!!!

Tere is anybody doing his/her Ph.D. without receiving any financial support by the university?

Hi international guys, I have a question for you!
An UK Univ offered me an unconditional place as Ph.D. student.
In the letter there is written:
This offer is subject to the following:
- confirmation of 3 years funding plus 5000 £ bench fees p.a.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Will they pay me and wow much?
Then there is written that I shoul pay 3170£ tuition fees.

Help me to understand this language!!

Anybody know how Plymouth University answer to your application for a Ph.D. position? (mail or e-mail).

I am an Italian graduate, I applied for a Ph.D. position in U.K. three weeks ago. Do you know how many weeks I have to wait for an interview? How they comunicate you these decisions (call for an interview, admission etc.)? By letter, telephone or by e-mail (too). (My concern is about Italian Postal Service that is not so efficient and often lose mail!!).
