Hi,
I think you only have to pay back the money you got in advance. For example, if you quit on January 31st and they've already paid you for February, you just have to return February's payment
Check with the student finance department just to be on the safe side..
Thanks glowworm! The forum is indeed an awesome place to discuss these issues
Quick question. Do you happen to know who decides which modules do PhDs teach? Do the supervisors get involved? I am assigned to demonstrating (1st year undergrads) and marking while others get more high profile modules (3rd year seminars etc)
Thanks again :)
Hello everyone,
I started my PhD last Monday and I feel exhausted. It feels like there is so much to do but so little time to do it. I had a proper meeting with my supervisors yesterday to discuss a bit and I left the office feeling dumb as f***!!! I feel tired all the time and it's only been 5 days!! Feels like I am in over my head.. Does this get better in time?
How are you guys coping?
ZR
Hello everybody
A 'How to survive your PhD' MOOC starts today on EdX. It is run by the same person who created the Thesis Whisperer website. Check it out - It looks quite interesting:

Hello all!
I'm a European citizen and I'm about to start my PhD at a UK university in October.
My question is; considering the recent election results in the UK and the decision of the new government to hold an in/out referendum in 2017, how would the possibility of UK leaving the EU affect our funding situation and fee classification?
Best,
ZR
That's rough...
You know, many PhD studentships are earmarked for a specific applicant and they advertise them just because they have too. I found out the hard way :(
It is a good idea to have someone (e.g. MSc supervisors?) to check your CV and cover letter
I wish you the best
