Sharing your working paper with external Professors, researchers etc.

Hi Sheyna,

just some questions: what does your supervisor think about it? Or did you not contact your supervisor about the paper?

Ah damn, last night I had an idea for checking something up on my data, an extra analysis just for fun and what happens? Just finished the analysis and it threw up something really interesting which I really should include. Damn, back to the chapter and write it in. :-s

Post doc purgatory
D

Our uni has a complete moratorium on academic, technical and admin posts for the next 18 months. Some guys/girls' contracts will run out in that time and nobody knows what they are going to do. I am a bit lucky as I am holding down a permanent full-time job besides the PhD but it's getting harder to get into academia.

What to call a Table of Tables

No problem. Sometimes we are so focused on the research work that we don't see the simple solutions. ;-) Best of luck!

Hi Aussiechick,

I did it this way:

Table of Contents for the main page but for figures, tables etc:

Index of Tables, Index of Figures, etc....

Hi PhDBug, welcome on board. :-)

IHey chris, just re-arranging some old data which I did years ago and have to go through again. Nothing big at this stage just some annoying little details. I'm already tired. :-(

Hello Danzig, and hallo gibt, Chrisrolinski. I hope we can all manage to get something productive done tonight, or, as Chrisrolinski might say, '
Ich hoffe, wir können eine Menge von Schreiben und Lesen erfolgt'.:-)

I have my Monkey Man project. (up)

No wait, that's my secret hobby project. ;-)

For my PhD I'm working on skeletons. :-)

Well, here I am alighting at Workinghell - what a boring ride. Danzig, you missed the train...again! :-)

Yes, I know, I don't seem to be able to stay awake at the moment. Absolutely knackered. :$

Ah I missed this one. Absolutely exhausted last night so I went to bed instead of doing anything. :-s Hopefully, I have some energy to get something done tonight. We'll see.

Back again on the midnight train. Anyone else?

I have to finish off two chapters 'til tomorrow. Almost there. Just have to slot in some more references and expand on some aspects.
Thesis must be submitted in exactly 8 weeks. Aaargh. Tired but can see the end is in sight. Just...have....to...keep....working....through.

Chapter length/word-count issues
D

======= Date Modified 02 Jul 2009 22:48:14 =======
Hi missspacey,

most of my chapters are only 2500-5000 words in length. However, our regulations may be different to yours. I am doing a medical sciences based research thesis and have been told time and again that the word count does not matter for us, it's the content that matters. Similarly our PhD regulations do not give a minimum/maximum wordcount. It rather says that it is expected to have an introduction, couple of chapters detailing experiments, discussion/conclusion and bibliography.

So, personally I would say a 4500 word chapter should be absolutely fine but it really depends on what the convention for PhD theses is at your uni.

Best of luck! ;-)

Hi Chris,

yes, it gets very annoying, particular with the lack of sleep these last couple of days.

I have finished typing now and will get some sleep. Best of luck!

Hi there,

anyone else burning the midnight oil tonight? I managed to get back on track after my thread here about lack of energy etc. Made a nice little plan and have so far worked through it and kept to the deadlines I set myself and with the supervisor. Hopefully I'll have a final draft by August and submit the thesis in early September.

The stress level is high, particularly working/writing when it's so warm and humid. Next deadline is tomorrow and I have to finish the discussion for my third chapter. So probably stay up till 1am.
