I havent seen the references because all reference letters must be sent to universities by referees in my place. My proposed project is also based on my own ideas, not professors' projects. I have contacted some potential superviors. All of them have read my proposal and asked me to submit applications with this proposal. But I dont know what went wrong with my applications.

Bad news again: one more application rejected. WHY? WHY? WHY?

I am in the field of linguistics. I got rejected at the initial application. I am sure the department I applied to suits my research topic because it specialises in it. I dont really know what went wrong with my application? Am I not a strong applicant in their eyes based on my results, research experience and publications?

You are right, Ephiny. I still have five "hopes".

What about you? Are u doing a phd now? what field are u in?

Tudor_Queen, There are 6 universities in my place, so I submitted one application to each university. Last time, I also submitted six applications. Because all my applications were rejected, I asked my refereers to give me some advice on my next round of phd applications. I did do what they said like doing well in the master's program, giving presentations at conferences, and publishing research articles. I think that I am a strong applicant as compared with my classmates. But I dont understand why failure comes to me again. I have been working non-stop (from 10-10 every day)to prepare well for my phd applications. No holiday and rest! But my efforts did not pay off! I am very tired!

TheEngineer, are you an international student or local student? Did you have a job before you got your scholarship? I recently turned 3x (not young any more). I quit my well-paid job for my master's so that I could focus on my master's studies and prepare well for my future PhD studies. (My family still blames me for doing this silly thing). Now I have the feeling that I will return to the same place and start my life and career over again! I am not very sure if I should apply next year again.

Anyway, thanks both for your encouragement. I feel a bit better after typing this message. Thanks a lot!

I have been anxious for some time because the results of my Phd applications will be announced very soon. I have submitted several applications to different universities but I am so worried that there will be no offer eventually. It is my second time applying for phd programs. Last time, i got nothing in the end. To prepare well for my second round of phd applications, I have worked so hard and tried to gain as much research experience as possible. Fortunately, i got one paper published in a prominent journal in my field and presented a few papers at different conferences. Although i have got some postive feedback from potential supervisors, i am still very anxious. I will break down if i get nothing again in the end. I think i will leave academia too if i have no offer!

Recommendation letter
D

Hi all,

I asked a professor to write a recommendation letter for my PhD application. But she asked me to draft it myself and then send it to her to sign it.

I have no idea what to include in the letter. What should I write in the letter? What is the structure of this letter? Do you have any sample letter to share with me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Handed in, awaiting viva - supervisors not being very positive! Need some positive viva stories!

Thanks for your reply, DrJeckyII. I do have my current supervisor. But I am going to change another field for my PhD study, so he may not be able to supervise my project again. In my department, there is another professor doing things similar to my proposed study. But I am not sure if he will be willimg to supervise my project.

Everytime I think about this stuff about admission applications, I feel uneasy! because I am afraid I will get nothing in the end! So stressed now!

Hi all,
just want to share my feelings! coz I cant sleep well and feel anxious. I will be graduating very soon and am now in the middle of looking for potential supervisors to supervise my PhD project! I am in the field of English Studies. I have finished my research proposal and am ready to send it to professors for feedback or criticisms. Durimg my MA study, I tried my best to gain research expensive and get something published.

Fortunately, I have got one paper published in an international journal and also had a conference presentation. my second paper is under review. I also got nominated for a sholarship awarded to those with good avademic performance. My CV seems good but I am still afraid that my research proposal is not well wriiten and will receive a lot of criticisms. This would most likely give my potential professors an impression that i am not capable enough of doing research.

I have this feeling because It is my second time applying for Phd programs. My first time was a failure, with no offer given. I am so scared Because i am afraid I will get nothing in the end.

any positive things similiar to my case to share? thx

thanks

scholarship interview
D

Hi Chickpea,

No, it is not a PhD scholarship. I hope that I can get one because I will start to apply for PhD programs. It is just a faculty scholarship for students who have done very well in the program in the last term. Did you have any scholarship interview before? How did you prepare?

scholarship interview
D

Hi all,

I was nominated by my department for a faculty scholarship, and got a call for an interview that will take place very soon. But I don't know how to prepare well for the interview. I have never had such an experience before. Could anyone give me some advice or share your experience with me?

I am also browsing some websites about winning scholarships. Hopefully I can be more familiar with this type of interview. But I would like to hear more from you guys.

Thanks!
