Chances of success

Hi. Congratulations!

Working and PhD study
E

Hi. I do not think it is realistic. They are going to pay you stipend and expect you to work full time. If you think you can survive 3 years with the stipend then go for it. Maybe a little luck can get you a bit more money but to be honest, it is unlikely.
Another related/off topic. The PhD salary in UK is low while in Germany for example is high. This comes at the expense that in Germany the PhD is not structured and there is a high possibility to leave after a few years without a PhD (happened to me). In the UK, most PhD students are awarded PhD but the stipend is low I know.

Research Tech to PhD with lower entry requirements at Oxbridge

Hello. I would say general observations not dirctly related to tier 1 universities. In general if the supervisor is willing to take you and has the fund, the rest is possible. In general having Msc is a plus point. Having a paper is another plus point. It is more likely that she gets you accepted. To summarise, the supervisor has the money and the power to get Phd students and you have enough qualififcations even in their strict criteria to do a Phd. I wish you the best.

Bullying

Hi. I am sorry to hear you are going through this toxic non supportive environment. I could not personally overcome this and ended up not completing my PhD. Here I can tell you what I wish I have done to avoid this:
Try not to insist on your ideas and try to apply your supervisors ideas in your own way. He is the one who has the power and we have somehow to accept this.
Publish at least 1 or 2 papers as soon as possible (not necessary with perfect results even theory would do). These publication will stand with you during final phase in writing and viva.
Do not expect too much to happen from uni admin, OIA or whatever called
Now you aleardy one year. Try to make this year a better one and always ask your supervisors and panel committee if you are progressing as expected.
The odds of getting a new PhD if you quit are not high. Seeing a great PhD is one thing and getting accepted is another
If you try not to be a very sensitive and try to do your best, I believe in two years you will submit your thesis and get your PhD.
I wish you all the best.

Looking for Phd position

You may go to industry and gain some experience and then try later. Or you may do another MSc. The competition is high and it is difficult to accept lower grades while they have a lot of applicants.

To continue Phd or not
E

Hi. Here is the thing. Your supervisor is a typical Phd supervisor and not an extremely evil one. Many of Phd supervisors act like him. If you wanna leave hoping for a better one, think again because you may find another one who is worse.
Now I advise you to be strong and do not quit because of his attitude or because of bullying from other colleagues. Try to be strong. It is not easy and I have personally failed to do so with my supervisor and bullying colleagues so I left the Phd because my contract was finished without actually finishing it.
Work environment is not perfect and academia is no exception. I am sorry for being harsh but only 2 options you have:
1. Stand strong and continue whatever who collects data and who does what and drink it as a nasty medicine to get your Phd.
2. You are sure that you are not that strong and will end up cracked (which happened to me). So you quit and explore other options.
Your decision should be independant on your supervisor response because he is not gonna change and life is not gonna change to be ideal

Hi. You just wait. If you contact them also, it is fine but if they are going to short list you, they will reply.

The cost of quitting a PhD

Hi Iwan, if you tell us the reason why did you quit the Phd, it might be helpful to formulate it in a nicer way

Phd results

I am in Germany and here it is not rare to leave after 4 or 5 years without a phd. They pay you salary as a research assistant at least in my case but the drawback is that you may get a phd or not

Phd results

Hi fellows, i am doing phd in electrical engineering. I have made several designs and none of them works fine so far. Now my contract may end after less than a year. Do you think i should ask my supervisor to do a new alternative to get my phd? For ex. I do a theoritical analysis and publish a paper about it?
The problem is that i want to know what happens if my designs dont work at all. Will i still get a phd or not? Here the supervisor has the ultimate power to decide if your work worth a phd degree or not. Thank you in advance
