It's not only those students that get funding from the ESRC though. I thought the same until I met quite a few people that got it from other more 'humble' universities. It's not only also the classification of your degree. I think what it's more important to them it's the proposal.

Well, I think we all have a plan b even if it's not that concrete:)I was looking for other funding and then stopped because I thought it's bad luck...well external locus of control here:)
I thought of emailing my supervisor but then I thought I push my luck:)lol. It's a crazy circle in our minds...isn't it?
The thing is that succesful applicants' registries will know by today.
