Consequences of breaking PhD in Germany?

R

Hi to All!
The situation is as following: I've won the DAAD Scholarship and it will begin in September. But I have doubts because the research theme doesn't seem me interesting enough and I don't know German language (but University's work language is English).
I want to go to Germany for 1-2 months and estimate all "on the place": probably my fears are just nothing.

So the question is as following: Should I repay the money DAAD spent to me if I break the PhD? And will I be in the "black list", i.e. with no ability to win DAAD grant again?
All answers are welcome!! I need your advice!

1. Yes
2,3,4: Depends on country. Take a look at your local DAAD web site for all the details. On the local site of my country there was all the information needed).
4: I've waited for approx. 5 months

It seems to me that one could break the rules sometimes. For example, I've sent a half of required documents 4 months after the official deadline. There are the people who really want to help in DAAD. Try to write them or to call (to regional office or to Bonn). Probably, they'll make an exeption for you.
