geting finding with a 2:2

M

hi all, i got a 2:2 for my undergraduate degree but im doing a masters now. I wanted to know whether it would be difficult to get funding for a PhD with a 2:2?

S

All depends on your Masters result now. You really need a Distinction to be a serious contender. Some do succeed with a Merit, but these are in a minority, so pull out all stops to get that Distinction.

S

most research councils in the UK stipulate that you need either a 2.1 or a 2.2 and a masters, so technically, you are eligible for funding (i'm sure you already know that!). But whether you get funding or not depends on so many other things, e.g. relevant experience, motivation, communication skills, intelligence, specialist knowledge e.t.c. In most cases, it's these other things that you will be judged on.

thanks for the replies, i guess i should just carry on searching and see how it goes

I'm in a similar boat. I got a 2:2, currently doing a MSc and on course for a Distinction. Looking into Four PhD's but I'll likely won't get any until I actually finish the course WITH a Distinction.
