Good time of year to look for PhDs?

G

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been up before, couldn't find it anywhere.....

Just wondering if there are particular times of year when lots of PhDs are advertised?

I'm hoping to do some voluntary work oversees this year but if there's a good time to look for PhDs then i want to make sure i'm not stuck in a jungle or something without the internet!:-)

There seems to be lots in Jan/Feb but is this the only good time?

Thanks!

Depends what field you are looking to do a PhD in.

In the social sciences, arts and humanities most funded PhD studentships are advertised in Jan - March with deadlines in April/May and successful applicants starting in September/October. All research council ESRC/AHRC applications have passed for this year but there still might be a few studentships funded by universities, but not many at this time of year.

In the sciences I think it is a bit more likely to find studentships advertised throughout the year.
