Thoughts? Admittedly a UK bias to it.

I've just had an PhD interview and waiting impatiently for the result. I tried to keep it a secret amongst my friends and family in case it went a bit pear shaped, but as usual it's all come out. Many of them don't seem to have a good understanding of what a PhD actually is, so when I came across this post and looked at weblink, I was able to explain it to them in terms they understood.
