PhD Researcher on my university business card, or job applications. But if I'm applying for student discounts etc, I call myself PhD student

Same as 404, PhD researcher for trying to get a mortgage and student to get a railcard and council tax discount!

For most things I use Postgraduate Researcher but for getting discounts etc its usuall postgrad or PhD student

Ha ha, I am with UFO! Plain old "unemployed". I am certainly not going to use my "sales assistant" title.

I used to say "student" unless it was uni-related in which case I was "PhD student". I try to avoid mentioning the PhD word as much as possible in the non-academic world.

I'm having issues now that I finished because for some reason people seem to think I expect to be called Dr at all times. I find it awkward that some people I know informally have asked me whether they should call me Dr
