PhD: is it worth applying for?

N

I've seen a fully funded PhD but it's outside the area covered by my MA (Renaissance Literature). The PhD ad specifically states that they're looking for candidates with an MA in modern and contemporary literature. Would you apply anyway?

(I've asked the supervisor this same question on email but haven't heard back yet).

Thank you all for any help you can offer. It's the first PhD I've applied for, and my MA finished 12 years ago so I fear I'm a bit rusty!

I guess it depends - do you know anything / been working for the last 12 years in modern lit? It never hurts to apply, but having the 'wrong MA' makes you an easy reject.

Thank you pd1598. I'm not in academia at the mo but am a jobbing writer with articles and reviews to my name. I agree it could be a quick rejection so I'm mindful of weighing that up against the amount of work and effort that the research proposal is taking. Thanks for replying!
