I passed my viva at the beginning of July and was asked to do major corrections. My supervisor at the time disagreed with a lot of them and said others were just minor. Having given myself the summer off to unwind with my family I got back to the corrections in September. Naturally it took sometime to get back into the swing off things, but I've stalled over the areas that my supervisor was not happy about. All though we discussed them and decided what I'd need to do to meet the examiners requirements I now strongly disagree with 75% of what I've been asked to correct/change/improve (?). I now completely resent having to do these corrections because I feel I justified why I did things in most aspects of the research and am now having to change things because that's how the examiner would have done it rather than what needs to be done.
In all honesty It makes me wonder why they say you've passed then give you a list of corrections? I suppose it's just another of the burning hoops they make you jump through! :-s
Keep going. I ended up writing 40-50k words in 2-3 months which was a nightmare but it meant I got a thesis submitted. I've just had my viva and passed, although with major corrections. It's not the ideal way, but you've come so far just keep going if you can. All the best. You can do it!

Great advice and link.(up) I've just submitted and didn't know where to start. My tutor, who is a very experienced examiner, reads a chaper a day and makes notes and collates them for the viva. I was going to start there. I've already got my dear old Mam reading it and she's found some pretty bad typo's like "sole" instead of "soul" :$ So I'll be compiling a list of them to. I'm also arranging a mock viva with my tutor so I'll have some practice as well. Good luck!

all those people (Sneaks and Bilbobaggins just to name two) who gave me advice and support two and half years ago when I was having major problems. I've battled with depression all the way through and am just relieved I'm about to submit. To do so will be an achievement in itself.
Cheers everyone

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look at mytomatoes.com and it looks simple but very useful. I work from home and at the University. With a wife, two kids and a dog and an interest in politics and sports I'm so easily distracted. Luckily everyone is very supportive.

Do you listen to music? Have lots of light or just be screan light? Give yourself dealines? Alone? Have your partner stand over you with a big stick! Wearing your lucky hat? Au naturale :$
I'm currently listening to Freebird by Lynard Skynard, sat in the gloom, on my own, fully clothed and thinking deadline what deadline. I'm off for a curry and a pint later :-)

Thanks. It is good to talk. I've bored my wife and myself to tears going around in circles. Other family members and friends looking from the outside are (or would be) completely baffelled by my view of the world at present ie a lovely wife, two great kids, house, car, being PAID to be a student and you want to give it all up?!. It's just not turning out like I hoped. I'm even more overweight than when I started. I hardly exercise. More of me is falling to bits. I'm drinking too much and when I'm in a good mood I'm on a real high, but come crashing down to earth over the most trivial of things. I was depressed before I started the PhD and I was hoping it would lift me out of it. I'm trying to do one chunk at a time but I've got a Mammoth let alone an elephant to get through.
