I was reading the entry about the student who had a third and couldn't find a phD and was wondering if anyone knows whether this applies to students with lower 2nd class hons? I'm in the process of doing a masters in medical biochem where on completion I'm accredited with the IBMS, is there still hope for me to get a phD, or am I wasting my time? Especially in the Manchester area!
Hi All,
I originally did a diploma in Electronics and recently acquired an Executive MBA. I am very interested in doing a part-time PhD, funding it myself while I am working. Do you think the diploma, rather than a primary degree , will cause me any problem? I gained a first class honour with the MBA.
Thanks
Alan.
with a 2:2 I have not found it easy. the funding is a problem I had several interviews and 2 offers Although both were for PHDs I would not have been committed to so I turned them down There is a possibility of a P/T PHD You could fund it yourself if you are working less expensive than F/T Today, there are so many 1st and 2:1s with MScs they simply reject anything below With a 3rd my opinion would be speak to someone with the possibility of repeating your final year to increase your grade
Hi, My name is Tania Katopodi, I am greek, and I have a BSc in Molecular Genetics (Sussex Univeristy), an MSc in Medical Genetics with Immunology (Brunel University), 23 months work experience as a research assistant & Quality Control scientist. I have tried for 10 months now to find a funded PhD but because of my 3rd class degree I can not. I feel that my MSc and my experience count more than my 3rd class degree but still I am disciminated on that basis. Can anyone suggest what I can do to find a funde PhD position?
Dear Eric, visit our funding section (www.findaphd.com/students/funding.asp) and our FAQ section (www.findaphd.com/students/FAQ.asp) for more information. Your potential supervisor should have details of potential sources of funding in your subject area. If you do not have UK citizenship you should try contacting the British Council in your home country.
