Hi all,
I am about to start my PhD in January, and I was just wondering whether working strictly from 9am till 5pm 5 days a week on the PhD is generally sufficient? I understand there must be times in the year where its a busier period. But how do you generally schedule you work? Do you work certain hours and then call it a day? As it is at least three years, I suspect one has to be very well disciplined, organised and have good time management skils, as well as seperate academic work from personal life?
Jamie Oliver on his 30 minutes meals made a soup as you described, check it out here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/jamies-30-minute-meals/episode-guide/series-1/episode-9
Hi all!
I am thinking of applying to a university for a PhD that is around 2 hours drive away from where I am currently living. I have the option obviously to move there. However, is it possible for me to live where I am currently living and commute in say once a week, or become affiliated to the local university library? I am just not sure whether living far from the university would be an option or not? Is anyone in that situation? How does it work? Are the departments generally flexible about these things?
Thanks!

Hi,
I had a PhD interview about 7 weeks ago and though I was unsuccessful for that particular advertised studentship, the interviewer contacted me and said she thinks I would be very suited to another phd studentship coming up in the next few months. After corresponding via email she said she would get back to me within 4 months.
My question is:
- Should I get in touch with her to let her know I am still interested?
Or should I just leave it as she must be very busy with academic duties etc, and will I just come across as annoying?
I did a presentation recently and I used a power point. My structure went as follows: Experience, Interest, Prospects. But I think you may need to specialise yours to your question. Have a general opening why u want to study the phd and then have 3-5 points on why that university, you can talk about the research they have done, and how it links to your interest etc.
