Suggestion on IELTS score and admissions

Thank you.
I would re-do my test as soon as possible after getting to know your suggestions.

To apply, I need to upload my test score as well. As I am looking for funding projects, few of them in their requirements specify clearly that the candidate has to attach the IELTS test score card. tor
In this case shall I upload my current score???

My manager and director promised me that they will be giving cent percent support for my admissions into PhD. He has suggested and referred me a project too, which is dealt by edinburgh university. The project is being outsourced from my current company to the university. In this case does the rules of the university over IELTS matter?

Suggestion on IELTS score and admissions

Oh,
So, do you suggest me not to apply for any of the universities right now with these scores?? Or can I give a go applying?? I am completely out of my mind, I did not expect such a low score. As I am not that weak with English, its a massive shock. Time constraint is ruining me furthermore.

Is it better to give IELTS again and apply with the new scores??

Suggestion on IELTS score and admissions

Hi,
As I am an international student, to apply for Phd, I have given my IELTS academic.I achieved 7 and 7.5 scores for listening, reading and speaking but for writing unfortunately it was just 5.5. I was devastated initially, still that was the reality.
I am a mechanical engineer by profession. Completed my Bachelors with a distinction (70%), Master's Degree with 81% (Gold Medalist), Industrial experience of 4 years and moreover, 2 years experience in teaching (ie., as a faculty for UG mechanical) with few research works done. Also, I have published 7 journals on the works.

While applying, I observe the requirements as minimum of 6.5 IELTS, I assume that they are looking for overall band of 6.5. But, my concern is as I have one component below 6, will they consider my application?? Will they have any weightage for academic excellence and Induatrial expertise?? Or will they just go by scores in selection for admissions??
Currently I am working for a long term research project in UK. Looks my dreams of getting a PhD seat is fading off because of my scores. I really don't have time to give this IELTS again as I have only 1 year (perfectly 11 months) of Visa left to stay in this country. If I start preparing and give it again, another 2 months will be consumed by the time I receive my scores. Completely depressed.

Kindly give your suggestions on this from the knowledge you all have!!

Thank you!!

PhD application waiting time

Thank you all. Very informative. For people like me, these answers are a sort of blessings.
For few they mention as admissions accepted all round the year. But they seem to have huge applications too.
Does anyone have idea about women association of engineers and scientists?? How can I get in touch with them??

Advice on research proposal
K

Thank you for the information!!Ya, I am applying for fully funded projects, as I am a non-EU student. My background is Mechanical Engineering. Funding myselves is not possible for me! That is the reason I am worried!! Number of funded PhDs for non EUs are less and on top of that lots of competition!!
Discretion will be the next stage I believe, but am not sure. Once they shortlist us, then we might need to make this based on the project they are funding for!! Am I correct??
Also, I am working for a research project currently for a UK based company!! If I can get some kind of recommendation letter, will I have better opportunities in getting an admission?? Like a sort of weightage!!

Achieved my goal even with the lack of supervisors
K

Your PhD is quiet inspiring. May I know which country you have achieved your PhD from??
I am trying to get my admission into PhD, but looks very tough for an international student to get it with funding, I have relocated to UK recently! Kind of confused!! I see very low number of admissions will be posted on FindaPhd.com for non-EU students and a huge competition!!
Six months back I just applied for 4 openings in and around London with all the documents, except IELTS score. I did not give my IELTS by then. It was very disappointing that I heard back only from one supervisor saying his project was for only EU students and if at all I can self fund he will be looking into it! (But website was stating for international) . Rest of them did not reply back!!

Now, I want to try seriously. Not understanding, in which way I have to approach other than the website "FindaPhd.com"

Advice on research proposal
K

Oh thanks, That is very informative and makes sense!!
I am trying to apply from "FindaPhd.com" website. They ask for transcripts, CV,reference letters and IELTS score to attach along with the application. They are'nt asking for Research proposal in the required documents. So, should I still include at this stage of application my research proposal also and send?? Or once I receive a reply, we need to send?? I don't have much idea!!

Advice on research proposal

Hi,
As am trying to apply for a PhD, got to know one need a research proposal ready.
My question is that the research proposal I have, doesnt match with all kinds of projects that am applying for!!
So for every other project should I change the proposal??
If I send the same proposal the supervisor might think that my interest is on some other topic and not his and reject the application!!
Like my proposal is related to material science, but I infact am applying for manufacturing and design projects as well. My masters degree is Computer aided design and manufacturing. Any of the topics will be a weightage for me considering my CV!
Please suugest!!!

Hi Monika,
I just saw your post. 60% of the women around you have failed in some or the other kind, but not all have given up.
My case, I was a brilliant student, always used to dream high. I studied well and coped up for the best university. But did not get placed there, the most depressing situation. I did not give up. Tried, tried and tried and got placed on the last day of my university, not in a big MNC but a small startup. they offered me very less pay. I wanted to fly for further studies, my parents said no. I stopped there, took up my job as the profession God wanted me in. I shined there, got the first promotion. My manage was a women hater. He used to make me work till night 11pm. My parents started worrying and I have to resign. Still, attended interviews, got a job in a little big firm, very happy with pay and life. Then there came recession. my team was 70, was reduced to 7. I was not laid off. It was my marriage, I had to leave the job, mean while I got one as a Plant engineer in a central Government firm, but my husband lives in USA, worked for 6 months and left to US as dependent. No work permit, a break of 2.6 years. Joined back in the same field, but things are different now. I had a kid who is 1.6 yrs old. Could not manage work pressure and take care of my baby. Took long leave, by Gods will and my husbands encouragement, took Master' and excelled it, received a Gold Medal. Got offers from colleges, took up one, started teaching and found myself passionate about research, university encouraged too. I did a bit research, (drop in an ocean). Published my work in reputed journals. My husband has shifted to UK. Again Break, (PhD) my passion, not easy. So, freelancing, research assistance, PhD trials, this way I am struggling now.
Don't give up dear!
Where there is a will, there is a way!! Good luck!!! Trust in God, he shows you the way. I believe this!! Your efforts and confidence in yourselves are more than necessary. Dont bother about people!! all five fingers are not of same length!!

Needed Suggestions for Research assistance

Hi,
I have sent a mail to one of the research supervisors in the imperial university, got the mail id from the website. I have gonr through the work and out of interest I posted him anf projected my willingness. I mentioned that "it would be my pleasure to work voluntarily as well" , but no reply. I sent a reminder mail two days back after waiting for a month. Am afraid, if still there's no reply, Can I go fot a third mail? And Can I ask if he could refer me to someother supervisor if in case he has no research projects going on currently? Will it look unfair? The other supervisor' work also was related to the same field from same university has astonishing publications, but I did not post a mail to him, thinking if that' not the correct way of approach to request parallely!
Please give your suggestions! Your valuable advices are welcome and it will be of great help!
