Getting feedback from Sup
M

A quick question to any other part time students studying remotely. I sent my supervisor a progress report and a message asking for some feedback so I know whether the suggestions I have proposed for further work seem reasonable, that was on the 14th and as yet despite another email asking for confirmation he received it I have had no reply. DO I have grounds to be P***ed off with this, do others have the same problem or is it just me?
Any feedback would be gratefully received
Thanks

Pointless topic of the week - hair styling
M

I must be showing my ag, I don't need anything in my hair or should that be head. One of the only advantages of thinning hair, it saves you money not needing to buy assorted "stuff" to go in your hair.
I can just about remember back to my youth (that was a long time ago), and once used old fashioned Brylcreme------ Horrible stuff.
God that has just made me feel really old.

Question about getting two degrees
M

HI can anyone answer a question for me. My wife has just started back at University to take a further nursing degree. She currently has 2 degrees and a post graduate certificate. She has been told that she can not gain a degree qualification and she will end up with a graduate diploma. Can you not get two degrees in the same basic subject (same core modules but different optional specialty modules). Hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on this for us.
Thanks

Stats Help
M

Hi Sneaks, I will try and explain what the data represents.
The two data sets are a measure of the voltage output of the same item measured using two different sets of test equipment. I am trying to get a way of describing how well the two measurement systems compare. In the ideal world the results should be exactly the same, but obviously the ideal world doesn't exist. So I am hoping to get a value that I can use to compare different sets of data without having to resort to the cumbersome descriptive method I am currently using.
The Z score I calculated was by the looks of it a mistake on my part, as I said I am a complete novice when it comes to stats so I am on a very steep learning curve

Stats Help

Hi walminskipeasucker,thanks for the reply, I have attached a small portion of some of my data below. What I am trying to achieve is to come up with some measure of how well the two dtaa ranges compare , on a frequency by frequency basis. Does the Pearson correlation you mention compare the data in corresponding rows, for example compare the two data values for frequency 30.02, then the two for frequency 30.08 and so on. Does the r value then give a correlation result of all the rows.

Sorry if this is a bit unclear but I am not really sure how this works.

I have got some other data sets that I have more samples and have worked out a Z score to give an idea of the correlation, but I gather that I need more than two data sets to use this method.

If anyone can follow what I am trying to achieve and can offer some advice I would be really grateful.

Thanks in advance
Max

Stats Help

I am looking for a stats "guru" who can hopefully give me some advice. As a complete novice as far as stas is concerned I am not sure what the best approach to take to analyse my data.

I have a large number of X-Y graphs (amplitude vs Frequency) that i am looking to investigate the correlation between.
The data sets I am looking to compare are two sets of Y values (using the same Y range) (hope this makes sense). I have seen a similar study that used a Z score for the comparison but from what I have read this works best when comparing large data sets (>100 sets of data). As I have only two sets and am just looking at a point by point correlation between them can some one point me in the right direction please.

I have looked at using Graph pad and excel which both have a correlation function built in but not really knowing what the function is doing (the help file assumes you know which type of analysis you require) I am a bit unsure what the results mean.
Hopefully some one can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks in advance

Bibliography Question
M

I read on a web page yesterday that the bibliography should list everything you have read in the preparation of the paper/ thesis. I thought that it should list papers /documents /web pages that have actually been referenced in the paper you are writing. Can someone please clarify which is correct.
Thanks

Another Latex question

Thanks for all the replies, I have managed to find out what the problem is, I have spaces in my file names and Latex doesn't seem to like them for some reason. I removed the spaces and everything seems ok.

Another Latex question
M

I have looked on line and don't seem to be able to find the answer to this problem, I am insertying some figures into my report (.jpg format), I can display the images OK but cant seem to stop Latex printing the image file name above it, anybody got any idea how to stop it. I am using the following syntax :

\begin{figure}[h!]
\centering
\includegraphics[height=50mm, width=150mm]{1 GHz Comparison.jpg}
\caption{Vertical Height Scan Comparison-1000 MHz
\label{Height11}

LaTeX questions from satchi really new-user
M

Hi Satchi, to insert a simple table into your text you could use the example below, this will produce a two column table with a single column to start with for a title

\begin{table}[h]
\begin{tabular}{||p{5cm}||p{5cm}||}
\hline
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{TITLE} \\hline
First Column Heading & Second Column Heading \\hline
Ist Column Data #1 & Second Column #1 \\hline
Ist Column Data #2 & Second Column #2 \\hline
\end{tabular}
\caption{Title for Under table}
\label{tab:Name to be able to reference table further on in text}
\end{table}

Hope this helps fro adding a simple table, if you need more info give a shout back and I will try and help, I think this is the sort of thing you were looking at.

Graphpad Prism Help
M

Hi Al, thanks for the reply. I have spoken to our "guru" at work today and it seems that I was trying to over complictae things. All I need to do is set up two seperate tables with their own data in then in one of the graphs add another series (data from the other sheet) graphpad will then do all the work and plot the new data against the old X values.
Thanks
for trying to help
