The oldest of my three dogs back home has long been trained by me to growl and bare her teeth when I say "I'm going to take the DOG's food...the DOG..." The moment you say DOG loudly she bares all her teeth. I trained her personally and am very very proud.
very specific to my field, but of interest perhaps?

KB - been there. It took a summer-to-summer the whole process, the 9000 word beast had nothing empirical in it, and will doubtless be read (And sneered upon) by the 'greats'. To top it all the copyeditor introduced mistakes in it which they corrected in a later issue as an addendum (or whatever these are called). I haven't looked at the paper copy - it sits on my shelves.
Argh.
Yes, agreeing with Eska - why not? And what's wrong if he knows? In high school things were different, but we are mature adults, and I don't find myself liking a whole lot of people really, so if I do, really (really) like someone, they must have tons of good in them in the first place. Non reciprocation/reciprocation is another question, but I pride my taste deffo! and nothing to hide IMO.
Hmm,i am wondering why she contacted him that much when she never quite wanted to pursue it?And when you say contact him a lot - I mean, in what way? if they work together and the contact is through that I doubt it could be potentially embarrassing. If not? I agree with Killhatron below - these things are very obvious...
Same here, the new first years came today and i started my 3rd year.
what i cant believe is I am apparently submitting by 31st Jan latest for a particular post doc app needs a viva by 30th March.
If that happens, in addition to my 2 jobs and conferences, by 31st Jan, ... well, then i myself will be surprised.
1. "haven't done anything in my PhD"
2. "gray/cold all the time"
3. "spent one year doing two drafts"
4. "world where competition is rampant"
5. "hide in grad school 'cause I couldn't find a job"
Forgive me, but I fail to grasp - which of these observations above is the fault of the British? The first is a personal lapse, the second a metereological occurence, the third an estimation of personal progress, the fourth an accurate observation about modern life, and the fifth a realisation that has dawned on you.
And, just in case, I am not British. I've spent 22 years of my life since birth in a sun kissed tropical country.

KB, I'm going out so very briefly - if I were you, I would not consider turning down a post doc with her. No way. Go for it. For all the reasons you say below - shes been gr8 and to learn so much more from her - they all apply to me too, and part of the reason I am eager to stay on with mine is that there's so much more to learn from her and she has her stressed moments alright but she has been a fab sup.
Here it is
