These sorts of battles are probably best left to those directly affected by them otherwise we'd never get any work done for worrying about it. I know plenty of people from all sorts of minority groups and for the most part they find making the sort of change you are suggesting, to be highly patronising at best and completely counter-productive at worst. What matters is intention and deeds.
It's pretty clear that no disrespect is intended by the original poster and in my opinion the issue should be left at that.
If you are having suicidal thoughts you must seek urgent medical help.
Nothing else is more important.
That is too serious a situation for me to want to begin talking about how you cope with another viva. That is a minor thing in the scheme of things.
Please make a call to someone tonight if possible and really right now if you can.
Once you get that sorted out there are plenty of people here who can help you with advice about second vivas.
I know this isn't a pleasant phase to go through at the start but those conrete plans you talk about are solely your responsibility.
In addition to the excellent suggestions by rewt and ToL, I'd add that if you need to use any instrumentation or techniques you should find online tutorials and get yourself up to speed during this stage. Find other people who can take you through any physical instrumentation as well if you can find them. You want to pay particular attention to any safety concerns.
They can pick anything from what you have written about and grill you until you can't provide further answers.
I was absolutely grilled on a couple of theoretical sections and it was very challenging but I got through it. My examiner was keen to firstly identify the limit of my knowledge and then drill through beyond that to see how I thought through unfamiliar problems. It was a pretty brutal session.
As a registered student you are exempt from council tax regardless of work you do on the side.
If you are receiving a stipend for your PhD, that will be tax free and you dont need to declare to anyone.
Your job title, if you need one, is student.
You will have to pay National Insurance on your earnings from payroll work but the uni will sort that out for you. Depending on your tax code you may also be paying tax but in April time you will get that refunded to you by HMRC.
ToL, my fear would be that the universities could be identified by the journal and that could potentially cause subsequent issues for the university such as restriction of legitimate access to the journals. Elsevier is valued at £35 billion. No company that big is going to sit back and allow their asset to be freely accessed.
Under pressure, the university could easily determine which of their users were accessing these services. That might lead to a threat to your job.
It depends on how much risk you want to take and how realistic those risks are. I am a hge advocate of Sci-Hub but it's only fair to warn people of potential risks of using "illegal services" within your university.
I use it at home regularly but would not access it when at uni premises.
