Using (Oxon) and (Cantab) titles...?
Q

Hi all,

I'm starting a PhD in October and they've asked for a "about me page".
All of the current students use their academic credentials in their name (e.g. Joe Blogs BSc (Hons) MSc).

In the UK, you see (Oxon) and (Cantab) to denote that your degree was gained from Oxford or Cambridge, respectively.
I've never seen both used in the same title, however, I have my bachelors from Cambridge and Masters from Oxford.
Does anyone know the protocol with this?

Do I write Joe Bloggs BA (Cantab) MSc (Oxon)? Or pick one? Or use neither? Naturally I'm very mindful of my first impression. Using Oxon and Cantab together (or at all) might make me sound 'snooty' to my peers or whatever. I would like to use my title correctly though - especially when my departmental profile becomes somewhat of an ongoing CV with publications, conference appearances, etc.

I really don't have a clue as its not something people discuss very often! And I've no idea who to ask without feeling a little embarrassed. Sorry if it's very simple!

Thank you!
