hi Prins
did you mean mu as the "u"? Thanks for asking this question at the forum.
Maybe somebody can explain it better than me but here goes anyway--
First of all, I don't think the one-sample test is relevant here, as you have two groups and they used the same questionnaire. So if you want to test the difference between the teaachers and students, it would be a two sample t-test (the 2nd one you did).
So you would report:
There were no significant differences between responses from teachers (M = 3.3, SD = report value) and those of students (M = 4.0, SD = report value), T(df) = value, p >.05.
About the mu , 4 for teachers and >= 4 for students, it just shows you that there may be a difference between how teachers and students score their responses, but reasons are speculative, as your results did not reach significance.
hope this helps

hi, I'm planning a trip down to london. I'm really not good at directions and maps! Can someone please help me out--
When I look at the website for buying the train ticket, the drop-down menu shows many locations of London! Where should the last destination be if my hotel is in the tottenham area?
thanks

hi Magdatrix
I remember one department of my old uni had this hotdesking thing. I used a workstation there and saw the polite notice to keep the desk tidy and clear of personal items as it would be a shared desk; I found that it was good and helpful for others to use.
And if it were not a permanent place, there could be a somewhat greater tendency to get the work done there and then. Of course you'd have to make serious considerations where to work when you need the workstation for longer periods--like when you are writing up etc.
As for me, I don't like having to move my things, pack up and go, pack again etc. I am thankful that I had my own desk during my phd.

hi solo congratulations on getting a phd interview! I am sure you will certainly shine at it :-)
for me, the most important questions were:
1. Why do you want to do a phd?
2. Why are u interested in this project?
3. What makes u stand out from other candidates?
best of luck--and post back when you get it the phd offer

hi kitten,
When I did my phd, I was told that 37 hours per week was expected of me, but actually I think some weeks I did less--and in saying this I mean less hours being on-campus. My supervisor was happy for me to work from home. But having said that, I do agree with wowzers n bilbo about the perks of being on-campus :-) people tend to remember who you are if you are around etc.
Oh yes please do apply for a railcard, it will help :-)
