Yep, I'd recommend gumtree.com - though be careful of someone asking you to transfer money before letting you view the property. It seems a pretty regular scam on there. Be careful of any ads that have really good photos, are absurdly cheap and are written in poor english OR ALL IN CAPS. You'll certainly find a room to lodge for the same price as you're paying now, though getting your own studio is still pretty pricey. It might be a bit weird lodging in someone elses house, I went to see one place that was living with a lady and her teenage son, which would have made me feel a bit odd. Either that, or ear plugs!

Steer well clear of the cheaper Fujistsus....ruggedised laptops are very expensive, and in my experience don't offer that much protection. E.g. if you drop both in the sea, they'll still break! You do get some nice rubber caps for the USB ports etc though.

I'm finding that even the super-keen ones are letting these things slip, especially during the teaching term. And yet we can see deadlines etc getting quickly closer. I haven't written any of my discussion chapter this week because of proposal writing etc. A good lesson in time and task management I suppose. Don't worry, we'll all get there in the end!

Set yourself strict deadlines - e.g. a chapter draft every couple of weeks. You'll say at first 'no way is that achievable', but its amazing how quickyl stuff comes out when you're working towards something and the end is in sight. Good luck!
