Massive congrats to everyone here :-) I'm so inspired by you all - its just brilliant!

Goodboy, the whole point of this forum is that its somewhere safe we can come and rant/cry/laugh/joke/support etc - and its anonymous for a reason - people say things that they can only say because its safe, we know each other by our user names, we don't need any more than that - its enough for people who've offered so much support and help to come here and say Yay, I did it - we don't need the details, that would destroy the anonymity and therefore the nature of this board where you can say exactly what's on your mind with no fear of it getting back to anyone and any repercussions. If you're that bothered then pm the posters and ask if they'd mind sharing with you privately.

What a lovely idea!

I just went to my PhD graduation last thursday (15th july 2010), and although i was stressing and dreading it, (i don't know why) as soon as they put on the claret coloured gown on me and the velvet cap - i felt really special and felt like a true scholar! and all those years and stress was totally worth it. It felt REALLY good to walk around in that graduation outfit, and during the ceremony have my thesis title read out and walk across and be congratulated by the Principle and officially graduate. :-)

I totally recommend attending your PhD graduation.

I passed my PhD viva on 28th September 2009. My research was on cancer biology. Thanks to everyone on this forum that helped to keep me going!

Hooray!!! I, Dr. Kerosen, might just be the newest ‘Doc’ on the block. I just passed about 3 hrs ago (and on 13th mind you!!!) of grueling grilling but only minor corrections. I am very pleased with myself I guess the reality has yet to dawn on me. As those that have gone before me might attest to, it was a culmination of incredible hard work, of creation of time, of ups and downs especially this last year. Mine presented an additional challenge in that apart from having to pursue it abroad, it was in a second language (both write-up & viva), which I only started learning at the start of the PhD, yet my area was not linguistics. The downside is probably that I got dumped by my then fiancée in the thick of it all, but I turned a threat into an opportunity by “marrying” my project and it paid – I’ve defended in 3yrs 1wk 11hrs. To sum it up all is well that ends well. To those on home stretch, match on gallantly, those further down the hill one day at a time and you shall surely get there. Cheers fellow forumites for the comradeship!

Passed my viva in December, final (minor) corrections signed off in February, went to the graduation ceremony which was totally worth it--it somehow gives some closure to the whole PhD saga and lets you move onto the next phase of life, whatever that is.

I just passed my viva on Thursday (30th September) with a few minor corrections! If all goes through the university fine then I will graduate on the 17th November. My PhD was in cancer microbiology.

I feel lonely now: all those names from the forum over the past three years that have kept me going (even though I rarely comment!) all graduating and I have three weeks to go before submission. Now who's going to bring a smile to my stress fractured visage?
