Thanks everyone for the words of support and wisdom. I discussed it with my supervisor yesterday and while he says 'why not work 'til the end of October', he said he was happy to sign off on it next week if that is my decision. I agreed to think it over (which I have) but really I'm spent as regards this thesis. I'm going to put in a hard week but then submit on 30 September.

Happy Days :-)

Ady, obviously I haven't seen your work but your work ethic is evident and you have seriously put the work in and so I think you have made the right decision. Wish you all the very best for you submission next week!(up)

Ady, I am pleased that your sup is willing to sign off your thesis for end September. Like you I had my own earlier deadline set to my official one  (partly for my own sanity and for my family) and I worked hard to achieve that. I think you know when you have done as much as you can. A break for fresh eyes is needed at least to be able to constructively work on it some more. That 'break' time is not really available to you with the official deadline in October. Do what your sup feels necessary and then submit. Assuming there are no major re-writes then really nothing much will change for the viva copy.

Work hard but don't forget to look after yourself (gift)

Great news! You're almost there;-)

PS congratulations!

Dear Ady,

Many congratulations on this!!! I am very happy for you. And you are almost there now! (up). Keep it up. Just one more week and then you can take a break from all this till the viva.

Cheers

Hope I didn't paint a dismal picture for any newbies - you're quite right to be excited about starting this PhD 'journey' :$, tbh it was the writing up phase that I found most stressful. It's not fully under your control and for a control freak that's a problem! Be strong and try to establish feedback parameters from the off, that would be my advice. Others I know found their data collection stressful whereas I didn't have that problem at all. Swings and roundabouts I guess...

Good luck to all, young and old, new and nearly there(up)

Hello Ady,

As I explained in another thread I have been away for a couple of weeks, and once back I discovered that I couldn't log in with my old details. so here I am with a slightly different username.

I am sorry that you had a stressful time, but believe me, however you get to the end, it is always stressful. Perhaps your supervisor was fussy because he wanted to give you the best possible chance to pass without corrections, or perhaps he was just disorganized and didn't manage to read it properly in the past weeks.

I think that in the end, it's only you who know if your thesis is ready for submission or not, and you seem pretty sure to me. So just go ahead with confidence!
At the end I couldn't have face the prospect of another extra day working on it, and I am so glad that it is over now!

Good luck with yours (up)
