Hi, I am trying to tidy up my PhD, but I have had differing messages about the proper way to present quotes which have been pulled out of text, ie longer ones. So do you:
Space either side of quote
Italic and centre quote
Drop the speech marks
Or is this wrong? Many thanks for any advice

if its over 40 words, I always make it its own little paragraph (i.e. empty line above and below) and italicize it, including quotation marks. Does that make any sense??

It might be worth checking what your university's thesis writing guidelines are and whether they specify a particular format. If they have a preference then you might as well get into the habit now.
