so i got a phd position invite from the supervisor of the project stating ''many thanks for your application. we have gone through all (insert number) applications and yours has been selected for the second round. we hope you would be available for the skype meeting at times so-so. Many thanks in advance and our best wishes''. I have done the interview and i feel i performed quite well. My question is does this mean that i was the only one invited for the interview? also how can i predict the decision of the committee. im told to expect a decision in a weeks time. thanks guys.

If you had been the only applicant selected from the first round, there wouldn't have been a second round. No doubt the field has been reduced somwhat, and your chances of getting the position have increased.

You can't predict the decision, unless you have inside information, or a crystal ball.

Best to just wait it out, and all the best.

hi picasso, on my coffee break now, just answering your question, no this does not mean you are the only one invited for interview. This information is not known. Sometimes they shortlist it to 2 or 3 people, definitely more than one person for the final round. it is not a good or bad thing, it is just the way things are.

My sincere advice to you is not to predict the decision. Sometimes the interviewers can be so warm and friendly, and then they haven't selected the candidate!!! Sometimes interviewers can be reserved and look grumpy---and the candidate who least expects to be selected---gets selected!!!! Don't predict, don't torture yourself like this, just enjoy your second interview and do your best!

Just got a rejection today for the phd position interviews. The PI said I didn't rank first in the interviews as its a single project. Quite sad but I go again. Thanks Guys. Cheers!!
