Is it possible a Phd in my case?

M

Hello from Spain. I’m 42 y/o and am working in an international organisation since 3 years ago. I have just finished my degree in International Relations at UoL International Programmes and got a 2:2.

I also finished a Bachelor's in Journalism 20 years ago in Spain, and some years later I did a master degree in Political Science.

Nowadays, I’d like to get a funded part-time Phd program in IIRR but I need to clarify certain doubts.
1. Is it possible to find a funded part-time Phd program in UK?
2. Will I have any problems to apply because I finished my master’s previously to my degree in II RR?
3. I got a distinction in my master’s degree but 2:2 at UoL. Is it a disadvantage to apply?
4. How far would my work experience help me in getting into a Phd program?
5. What steps I should take to get it?

Many thanks in advance,

Jorge

1. funded parttime PhDs are less likely but possible
2. you don't need a masters to do a PhD anyway
3. It might be, but then you have the other ones so might be ok
4. It will probably help a lot
5. search findaphd.com and apply or contact institutions directly

Hi mestrejorge,

With PhDs the entry requirements are usually less defined that for undergraduate degrees for example.

What this means, is that you probably need to find some PhD programmes that you are interested in and then contact the institutions to discuss your particular circumstances.

On FindAPhD.com, you can search for PhD courses by keyword, area of interest or university:
http://www.findaphd.com/search/

Each of the PhD courses that are listed on this website will show what funding if any is associated with the opportunity, the eligibility criteria and also an enquiry link to contact the university directly. This might be a good way to find some courses which you are interested in, and then you could contact the university or course provider to see whether you could undertake the PhD on a part-time basis etc.

Good luck with your search,
Jorge
