PhD funding when quitting

C

Hi everyone.

So I'm about to quite my PhD, and have a couple of questions regarding my funding.
Usually, when leaving a PhD, I have read that you must repay any funding you have received for FUTURE periods only on a pro-rata basis.

In my case, this is likely to be from now up until the end of September, as I get paid every 3 months.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I'm an EPSRC funded student.

Another question I have is, since I have been given extra money to go to a conference (which I have already been too a couple of months ago), do I need to pay that back too or would things like that just be written off?

Thanks in advance!

You should expect to be asked to pay back future funding you've received in advance, so any monies paid for AFTER the official date you leave. But universities don't always seek to recover this. When I left my first go at a PhD in 1996 I wasn't asked for any money back, though I expected them to.

P.S. I was EPSRC funded too for that first go at a PhD. But they may be stricter at recovering monies than 19 years ago.

Good luck!

cant you just delay your official leave date until the end of the month? and just tie up loose ends in the meanwhile?

C

Thanks @BilboBaggins, I thought that to be the case.

@Chococake I'm thinking that's what I might try to do, although I don't know how many loose ends I have to tie up!
