I have emailed several supervisors for advertised PhD studentships yet I have not received a single reply. It's starting to bug me and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and any suggestions for how I can entice them to reply to me.

Well, I don't know where you are, or where you're applying too, but in much of western Europe you'll be lucky to see hide nor hair of a reseacher in situ, as it were duruing Juky / Aug- holidays and reserach trips count that out!

What have you emailed them about? Why not just apply for the position? Even if they are still around now, they probably can't be bothered to reply.
