Can I enter in a UK PhD program?

G

Hi guys,
I have completed 16 years of education [including 4 years of undergarduation]. My aim is to achieve a PhD degree in my field. Now, is there any way that I bypass Master [MSc] program and enter into PhD program? Or Can I convert my MSc [from UK] into a PhD program?
Kindly help me in this regard.

Bye,
Viki.
I have done Computer Engineering plus IT certifications.

If you already have an MSc then you should be able to start on a PhD course. Some universities start all PhD students on an MPhil programme, but providing you are good enough after one year your registration will be changed to a PhD. Effectively it's the same as starting out being registered for the PhD programme.

G

Ok. What is the proceure of entering in MPhil programme? And is it better to do MSc then PhD OR MPhil. then PhD? What you recommend?

Bye,
Viki.

If phd is your ultimate aim, then go for mphil. The info about applications can be found on the Uni's website.

If you want to work after masters, then go for MSc.

Dear Rob,
Yes PhD is my ultimate aim. But due to my weak financial background, I am worried for financing during MPhil & PhD. If not for MPhil, but atleast for PhD.
Please guide in this regard!

Bye,
Viki.

If you have a Masters, then you can enrol directly in a Phd. But if you have a Bsc(4 years) then you can enrol in Mphil initially and later transfer (after one year) to phd. Most supervisor allow this. Email some supervisor of your choice and ask whether he will allow you to transfer after one year.

(continued) Its extremely hard to get funding from the UK government. Your supervisor may have some funds available but thats not enough.
If you are passionate abt a phd, then its best if you work and save some money before starting a phd.
Also study your subject in the meantime and try to produce a research paper. This will help you in securing funds in the future.
If research is your aim then start now and dont wait for a Phd.
Also check out with British council and your own government for PhD financial resources.

What do you mean by "draw a bypass (MSc)"?

G

I am a MSc student and I have been having difficulty searching for such infor. as posted by Rob & FaPhD team. I feel I'm burging in, but viki you would do well by obtaining a scholarship, but most importantly work/study part-time
