G

Hi All,

i am a graduate student, majoring in environmental sciences. I would like to make friends with persons pursuing same research interests worldwide, to share experiences and discussions on environment subjects.

wish to hear from you

Hie Kisak,
I am a french student, I graduated in environmental sciences last month from Geneva's University (Switzerland) and I obtained a Ph.D position in US, working about algal carotenoids as biomarkers linking fish and benthic organisms with Type E botulism. I leave France in 3 weeks now and am a little bit scared to leave friends, familly, good wine, cheese...

What are your research interests?

Bonjour Maxime,

Nice hearing and knowing you
I am looking at some issues regarding oil spill remediation using chemical sorbents and will wrap up my project here in NZL by the end of this year. I am for the time being looking for a scholarship to do my Ph.D in USA. Do you have any ideas or advice about that? Did you get funding for your Ph.D and which Unis in US you are gonna be heading to,

All the best et Merci,
Kisak

To answer your questions: - I am very, very lucky...and aware of that...especially when I read the messages of this forum. I didn't search for this position, a friend of mine who is studying Aquaculture in Scotland sent me the offer. So I sent my resume plus a full description of the courses and internships I attended during my studies (and relevant with the subject...of course), I communicated with my new advisor, speaking about the project (you have to show how you are interested, being curious, making some comments... even if you aren't already part of the "project-team", I called her on the phone, then after that I had to take the GRE and the TOEFL.
I am leaving in about 10 days now and I contacted my advisor for the first time in the middle of January.
I have an assistanship (I have a good "lab experience" so I don't have to pay the tuition and I have a good stipend, covering the "living expenses".
I was really surprised on how US Univ can be generous with their Doctorates...it's totally different in France. - My University is State University of New York in Albany, at the department of Environmental Health and toxicology. - The advices that I can give you are to send you resume with a desciption of your experience on your field of interest (put your name as the title of your Email), don't hesitate to contact advisors on the phone and be curious... maxime
