I'm very interested in a PhD programme (molecular genetics)that has one year of research experience as a prerequisit. The problem is that my current institution does not take in research technicians etc. so I can't get it there. Any ideas? Would it be possible to get such a place at another university or will they prioritate own students? If I try to get something in industry what should I think of? Is it difficult to get a place? I'm really not that fussy about my pay check (I just want to get into that programme!).

You can try and normally Universities prefer people with related study/experience,does not matter from what institue you come from.
