Hello my name is Raffaella and I submitted my own PhD proposal recently to a prestigious University which has been accepted! I am extremely happy however I do not have funding available! What do I do to find them? I am considered at the same level as a UK applicant. Please help!

u can search the link funding in this site or directly contact ur prospected supervisor for funding

there's no magical method to find funding, you just have to search on the internet just like everyone else.

I did start searching everywhere, I am not that stupid! (my PhD will be in Marine biology) and I hope that one day some good soul will reply to my thousand e-mails...However I am wondering if anybody developed a special technique or has some advice reguarding possible applications!

Well if you are not stupid (and I'm not trying to imply that you are!), and you have done your research into possible ways to get funded, you will realise that noone can give you a definitive short-answered reply to your question!

Did you ask your prospective supervisor for advice or ideas as to scholarships you might be eligible for?

I think that the point of a forum is discuss with people that have gone through the same problem that you are addressing. Therefore ask advice to somebody with more experience is the most sensible thing to do. If you do not have an answer there is no reason why you should reply. I wanted to make sure I m not missing anything out as this is my life-time opportunity and I really want to get it right. Also I want to make sure i explore every possibility and try to disturb my prospective supervisor as less as possible.

I did ask him but at the moment he is in America for some conference so I want to make sure I am prepared when I will talk to him again. I just want to know If I am following the right procedure or in what ways other people obtained funding, I am not expecting anybody to find them for me!!

Dear Raffaella, I'm afraid I do not have any advice for you. I just wanted to wish you good luck. Sometimes I think that many people on this forum are unsatisfied in some way with their work and try to make themselves feel better by giving others saucy comments. I really hope you will find the funding need.

Don't be afraid to contact your supervisor for advice - if they've offered you a place, they want you to come and should be happy to help if they can.

Try to find a funded position elswhere while you try to find funding for this one. Otherwise you could waste time or miss the deadline for something else. It may seem hard, but don't put all your hopes in one project.
