Hi there, I am UK BSc student graduating this year, there is a possibility that I do a PhD abroad (Australia) next year but no funding is available. Could you tell me what my options for applying for funding are/who I could contact? Thank you very much. I have tried the MRC but no luck so far...

There is no point approaching UK research councils directly, as they do not deal with applications direct from students. There are some links on the funding page of this site which relate to Australia and you may also be able to approach relevant charities.
