Do you think we should have an 'introduce yourself' thread?

A

I wonder if you've missed the point. Isn't the great thing about this forum is that we can vent our frustrations anonymously, adopt another persona and speak freely about common doctoral student issues without our colleagues/supervisors identifying us. Supervisors read this forum as well!

O

I think its possible that we can have information here that does not totally give away who we are and where we are and what we do. Why are supervisors hanging around reading this forum, anyway? Do any of them pretend to be PhD students?! (shock!!! HORROR!!!) If they do read this forum, then they should take on board some of the comments and resolve to become the best supervisors they can. And perhaps to try a few trout receipes as well.

Olivia...what about trout cake?

C

Poor trout.

A recipe for Trout Cakes!!! Honest!!!

O

Since this is food that can be frozen for 6 months it might make the perfect food for a PhD student!

Hi, my name is Edwardo Humphrey III and if my supervisor is reading this then, sucks to be you! hahahahahahahaha

C

Hi, my name is Claudia. I'm 23 and at the end of my 2nd year Im doing a PhD in a medical field.... which does not mean that I have any medical qualifications

C

Olivia - That's brilliant! I'm off to find my fishing rod and hook myself a freezer full of omega 3 rich dinners

O

Cakegirl, what sort of wine would go with trout cakes? I am thinking Merlot, but...?

C

Olivia, good point. I'm a big fan of sauvignon (sp?) blanc with food of an aquatic nature. Particularly of the New Zealand variety. Although I'm not fussy. I'll drink NZSB with anything!
Maybe it depends what you serve it with? I like wine, but I'm a bit of a novice. I'm trying to learn more, but have stopped buying it on account of financial limitations. This isn't helping the learning...

Maybe we need a wine/trout thread? I think there are some interesting experiments in this field...

hi, i'm shani, i'm 32 (i think - tend to forget and confuse my age), i'm in london, and approaching the end of my second year in my sociology/anthropology of medicine PhD. i've been on here since about february 2007, i'm half swiss half british and thus do not qualify for funding more often than not.

oliva - no. but fantastic detective work...and the name does refer to my geographical location in some form.

aloha - i'm going to guess that people who are bothered about being identified won't give enough info to be identified and those who don't care about it will give as much info as they like. and, just as an aside, i do feel sorry for those who worry their supervisors lurk on here. my supervisors are wonderful brilliant people. i like them professionally and (as much as i know them) personally. but i feel for people who don't benefit from this kind of relationship.

oo, also, olivia, i'm confused by the trout recipes. where did that come from? i see them quite a lot. plus, can trout be substituted for other fish? are you doing a phd on the legality (i saw you were doing law) of fish in phd students diets? is it currently illegal for students to consume fish? i feel like i need more information here!

Milled linseed or hemp is a great source of Omega 3.
