There must be less than 50 people in the world that can answer this question! I doubt you will find them on this forum.

New posts need approval first, so it will only appear on the forum a few days after you posted it, so people will miss it unless they do like I do and scroll back through the forum and look for posts with no responses :)

Doing an advertised PhD topic at a different university
T

It's not going to be possible. That PhD is supervised by academics that work in that area. It's their project, and is probably linked to their other projects and their area of expertise. You can't pick this up and take it elsewhere.

Quote From anonymous1977:

1. I am looking for some guidance how to go about researching how to shortlist PhD programs in business and most importantly, will I be able to get into an academic career if I am already 40 now and will take a few years to complete PhD.
2. I am also looking to be close to India. So, any geographical advise on where to pursue will be helpful.

Shortlisting: you think about where you want to go geographically (Since you're from India, I would think you would know better than most where you would like to place yourself), you google universities in that area, you see if there are research groups that fit your interest via google or university web pages (not necessarily in that order), you make some sort of list as you go, you contact professors and see who can offer a PhD (have you got funding? Because it will be difficult without). There are no quick and easy shortcuts to this.

Postdoc letter of application for US university - some advice
T

Write it to a specific person.

Cover letters should be one to two pages, so 650 words sounds about right.

There's a formula for these things, which is slightly different to the UK, so look online to find out what this is. Try sites like http://theprofessorisin.com/ and the forum on Chronicle.com is very good. US CVs are quite different as well, so google for examples.

Can You Study PhD and Masters Degree At The Same Time?
T

Why would you want to? You can do a PhD without a masters.

Didnt finish my Msc Degree due to personal compelling reasons
T

I'm from the UK and I don't think you will get funding for that. Once the government has funded a course at a certain level, they won't fund it again.

Notice time for viva

No, it could be a day, it could be 6 months. You need to check with your supervisor and express your preference if you have one.

I think this person is trying to harvest ideas for an inevitably-terrible blog.

Thanks

Then why do you keep posting these one line questions on different topics?

Worse case scenario: Fail PhD

International students often have clauses that they have repay the stipend if they don't get a PhD.

Done with PhD, now what?

Congrats babygirl!

I did a short postdoc after my PhD and now I'm on a permanent teaching contract in a university. It's a pretty sweet deal, aside from the fact it's non-progressable at the moment and lack of prestige among academic research colleagues...
