i had another dream over the weekend! mine was more simple but more upsetting - i dreamt i got an offer! then i woke up and frantically tried to discern whether or not it was a dream :(

at home today so I get to wait for the postman! oh dear. here's a link which may be of interest to some of you:

http://www.ahrb.ac.uk/images/convener_report_panel8.pdf

you can replace the "8" in the link with the number of your panel to see the report for that.

there do seem to be a lot of history students, no wonder they say that panel is among the most competitive! as for panel 8, i guess most law students go into professional practice, and philosophy and religion are relatively niche subjects i suppose!

i think philosophy is the worst for having to explain to normal people! while topics in history and other subjects can certainly be esoteric, at least they can be understood without explanation. you get pretty blank looks describing your proposal on hegelian and heideggerian phenomenology. not to mention people thinking philosophy is psychology!

no post for me today! i think if i do get an offer, i'm going to send them a thank you card. well, i'll consider my offer for 4 months, write the thank you card, then post it 2 months later. second class.

Dervish, as someone who is hoping for RPM funding to study heidegger, can i ask you what work it is you do? id love a challenging job if this fails, and presumably we have similar educational backgrounds!

dervish, i can sympathise with you being unsure as to the value of continuing in light of the rejection. but really, producing a great dissertation is something you're unlikely to reject. no matter what you do next year, you can always apply again without too much effort, and a strong dissertation performance would only increase your chance of success.

congrats mskoncept! that must have been such a good feeling! although to echo what people have said above, its going to make opening the envelope awful now! i had a thin letter scare last night, but it will be the last one!

mskoncept, let us know if you do ring, and what they tell you! i received my postcard back from them, but im paranoid my envelope might be lost in the post, and isnt it true that you only have 2 weeks to accept an offer?

thats unfortunate pamplemousse, although if its grade 3 it might be worth applying next year. although its bad news for us all if grade 3s arent good enough to secure funding...

interesting find, mskoncept. if i do get funding for the MA, i guess i'll have to make an extra effort to impress my department! i don't get to check the post until after work, so another nervous trip home for me tonight!

so, anyone heard from the postman today? i actually had a nightmare about envelopes last night. how embarrassing.

its the way theres no discernible pattern thats upsetting! if i knew that rejections got sent first i might feel at least a little bit better!

I've asked my mum to ring me if any fat letters come, and I wish I hadn't now - I'm nervous all day waiting for a call, and when I don't get one, I start to fear there'll be a thin one waiting for me!
