at home today so I get to wait for the postman! oh dear. here's a link which may be of interest to some of you:
http://www.ahrb.ac.uk/images/convener_report_panel8.pdf
you can replace the "8" in the link with the number of your panel to see the report for that.
i think philosophy is the worst for having to explain to normal people! while topics in history and other subjects can certainly be esoteric, at least they can be understood without explanation. you get pretty blank looks describing your proposal on hegelian and heideggerian phenomenology. not to mention people thinking philosophy is psychology!
dervish, i can sympathise with you being unsure as to the value of continuing in light of the rejection. but really, producing a great dissertation is something you're unlikely to reject. no matter what you do next year, you can always apply again without too much effort, and a strong dissertation performance would only increase your chance of success.
mskoncept, let us know if you do ring, and what they tell you! i received my postcard back from them, but im paranoid my envelope might be lost in the post, and isnt it true that you only have 2 weeks to accept an offer?
thats unfortunate pamplemousse, although if its grade 3 it might be worth applying next year. although its bad news for us all if grade 3s arent good enough to secure funding...
