Stupid stupid error (literature review/methodology)
W

How does your supervisor suggest you approach this? It may be that you incorporate the new literature into your analysis and conclusion to bring your data up-to-date with current thinking. I've seen this done by academics where data they have collected years previous is 're-treated' against new literature. I'm not sure it could just be a case of citing new literature in the lit review if you're then not going to mention it elsewhere. The new literature might even be a positive nad help you see your 'older data' in a new way.

My application is unsuccessful

If it's what you want to do keep applying. There is nothing stopping you using the same proposal or adapting it. Just keep looking. :D

Turning into a Pudding!

Thanks tree of life, that's good to know. I try steer clear of sugar free awell because of the Aspartame. I've ditched chocolate :(

Turning into a Pudding!
W

Me too. I've only just started and I'm 'pudding-ing'. Ditch fruit snacks, any sugar is sugar, even fructose, your better snacking on cucumber and corrot sticks. Try and reduce bread or look for alternatives e.g.g flatbreads. Only drink water! If your really cold and need to warm up drink a herbal tea with no milk or sugar or sugar free hot blackcurrant juice. Do I do all this stuff, erm no but I wish I did ha ha it's the advice I was given. I have swapped to water and cut down on sugar though. I agree swiming would be good. Get on youtube and look at workouts. I've just started 30 day shred. 20 mins each morning at 9am ;-p It's a killer at the start. I've bought myself some swimsuits a size to small...I will fit in them in time for my holiday! Good luck.

name change for ladies?
W

I have a lond double barrell only because my family surname is quite unusual so didn't want to loose it and my partners name is one of the most common ha ha.

What name will you use instead? If it is a given name like your second name then you can just drop the first name but if you choose something completely different there is a legal process to go through to get your name legally changed by deed poll I think? I know loads of people that don't use their given first name, it's not that unusual these days but most use a derivative of it or a seond name. I think lots of job applications these days do have sections asking for your preferred name.

Can you double barrell it, Dr Satchi-Blanc? Exciting to be getting married well done on your doctorate and engagement :) x

Anyone have young children?
W

Good point about sleep when baby sleeps. You can do 3 baths, that's what the top and tail bowl is or or get a shower seat, anything that cuts time. I've two dirty boys, lol and it worked (it was also to helo their dry skin though).

Def follow metabs advice about equality and see what money you can get, particularly anything towards formal childcare. If you're in your last year are you just on write up or do you still have data to collect as you could cut your placement altogether if you no longer require data or only do a few days or block it e.g 4 full weeks in placement and 4 weeks off? You need to check how felxible the uni and placement can be. ;-p

Anyone have young children?

Hi Elfin. First, you're doing really, really well, it's hard enough without children but you'll make yourself ill carrying on this way. I too have children and both mine were also non-sleepers. Doing a Prof doc I'm taking it you are UK then? You need to see your Health visitor about sleep training ASAP. I'll tell you what mine said...Routine, routine, routine. Bath them 3 times a week, you don't need to do it each night (it's not good for their skin anyway) Other days use a top and tail bowl. In bed at 7pm prompt each night. If you're still BF, use a pump and get some storage milk bags so others can feed from bottle but after 12months you can stop and use just cows milk anyway. Don't feed to sleep (although you already know that!), you need to cut it out for your own sanity, she needs to learn to settle herself or you're setting yourself up for years of problems. You might need to try controlled crying, that's what our HV advised...it was the hardest most emotional thing ever and they both screamed through it and it took a few weeks but oh my days it worked and it's amazing to have your little one in bed at 7pm and sleeping through. But all children are different, please go and see your health visitor about the sleeping, they should be sleeping through now. I know Bounty has a forum for student parents that offer mutual support x

Still Unlucky :(

What about 'Teach First' they will pay you to train to teach, not lots but better than paying your pwn PGCE? Are you registered with agencies?

Still Unlucky :(

There is nothing to do but keep going, you are doing all the right things. Is there anything from your PhD that you could use as a business idea?Look for gov grants for starting up a new business, it might even be something consultancy based? Just a thought.

Supervisor hijacked my work, options to finish?
W

You could always try for an alterntive formate thesis - PhD by publication. You still need to be affiliated to an institute but you don't submit a thesis with a supervisor you submit your publications to be considered as worthy as Phd. Something to think about.

FAIL DISSERTATION... HELP PLEASESSSSSSSSS
W

Definately contact the school again. I agree that it probably just is the submission fee you should pay. £4000 for one module is probably about right for an international student for a 30/60 credit module. Don't get too stressed. Get a plan of action and work through it. If you can't afford to resubmit check if you can be awarded a post graduate Diploma for the modules you have already done? To be honest, if you want a job in academia you would probably have had to go on and do a PhD anyway and these marks would not get you on a PhD so I guess you are using the qualificatin for work, in which case the difference between a Diploma and full masters probably won't make much difference to an employer.

Good luck
