US or UK for the PhD?
M

same here. I am doing a PhD in the UK, but I was in doubt between california and uk! My friends told me that in US there are too many exams and it is much harder...

Why don't you try to go somewhere else in the UK? It would be a bit like changing country! Also, if you check in the UK universities websites they might mention of some collaborations with the US so you could still go there for a year during your PhD. If I remember well, when I was checking where to do mine, I saw in this website aderts about PhD opportunities here in the UK but with a year spent in the US.

hope this helps

from self-funded to funded PhD???
M

Hi guys, thanks for your replies...
My project is in microbiology, so unfortunately AHRC (which I just checked) is not for me :-S
I have tried to talk to my supervisor about funding, but unfortunately he doesnt know how I could get it.
Last October, when I started, he didnt get any grant in his lab so i guess he thinks he cant get one for the same project for next year!

from self-funded to funded PhD???

Hi, is someone able to help me with this tricky situation?
I am a first year self-funded PhD student in the UK and I would like to apply for funding for my next couple of years (I am on a 3 years course) but I am not sure where I can apply...
I have found many websites but they all say that they do not accept students applications, they accept only applications directly from supervisors or institutions!

Thanks,
Mary
