Working in my 4th year of PhD

Hi all.

I'm currently in my writing up phase of my PhD (4th year), and my funding ran out last September (end of the studentship). Since then i have done numerous jobs here and there to get by such as teaching etc, but I am now about to start a full time job for 4 months as a Research Assistant.

I need this job to live - i can't afford not to work. My question is, is it possible to juggle both of these commitments? I'm aware that i still have a lot of work to do on my PhD, and i do have extenuating circumstances that would allow me to receive an extension come September 2019.

Any thoughts, guys?

Thank you :)

Hi, I think it will be possible, although you will have to be very strict with yourself to keep up with the writing. I am in a similar position in that I have just submitted but have been working full time for the past 6 months. You have a clear deadline so work backwards from submission, and allow at least a week from final piece of writing to soft binding - you do not want to proofread the day before as you really won’t be thinking straight if you do it at the last minute, I know from experience! Best of luck

I think if writing has been your weak point (as mine), you could order yourself a personal . Believe me, it's not a bad option as you'll get exactly what you need by asking them for help as they have been a strong service since I am completing my PhD.

Yes, it is simple, you can but it is hard work. I am completing my second PhD both of which have been part time while I worked for a living. It hurts and you don't have a massive social life, but life is hard if you want to live.
