Does anyone know what "Galley" means?

M

Hi all,

I have recently had a paper back from peer review and one of the corrections I am to make states:

Paragraph n, Line n: check galley.

The journal is Life Science based if it helps. I thought it might be to do with the length of one of my sentences? It certainly needs breaking at this point and I wondered if this was what they meant?

I will of course check through the official channels but I wondered if anyone had come across this before?

Thanks!!

T

Maybe they mean this:

e.g. check the printed version

M

Thank you for your reply timefortea!

It had stumped me but thank you, I think they mean that I should check the printed version. Apparently it is an old publishing term that is sometimes used to refer to proof-reading before the final version goes into print. Hopefully this is helpful for anyone who is asked to do something similar.

We were fortunate enough to receive minor revisions so I am grateful for such small changes :-)

Thank you!!
