"Career" gaps between BSc / MSc and PhD

G

I was wondering whether anyone would be able to deal with a query regarding "career" gaps.
I have a BSc (2.ii) and an MSc (which was completed just over 2 years ago). Since then I have been self-employed in a relatively dissimilar discipline. My question is simply whether the length of time since having finished the MSc would count against me as far as applying for a PhD.
Many thanks for any assistance.

No but Experience in the similar can help.

I really wouldn't have thought that having a 2 year gap between your MSc your prospective PhD programme would be a problem. The point is that you are able to show that you have a good academic ability - which is something that the 2 years out won't make any difference to. If anything, the 2 years of having lived in the 'real' world without having been spoon-fed could be a positive.

Karen & Raj: Many thanks. That's a big relief!
