Engineering PhD. need comments on the situation described

S

Hi. I started my PhD last year and I am enjoying it very much. I have previously done degrees in Engineering and this project in PhD is a mix of Engineering and Physics which is an interesting but tough mix.Although I am enjoying the work, I am also going through a steep learning curve. I have this occasional feeling of what it all will lead to.I am bit worried about what sort of jobs will I end up with. Certainly my project is very specific, although I do learn transferable skills which may be used in other projects but I am still bit worried. Can anyone give me some comment on my post. It will be appreciated.

There are several websites for jobs related to engineering application. Try the following,
http://www.physicstoday.org/jobs/index.html

I am doing my Phd in engineering with emphasis on GIS, I live in US and there are many opportunities here ranging from teaching to private consultancy. Also there are many opportunities as a researcher in state and federal agencies. I think you will benefit more if you are into modeling/programming compared to other application areas, just my point of view. Hope this helps, gl

Thanks for your reply. It definitely helps.I am doing my PhD in UK, although I am quite flexible in terms of moving places if that does any good to me.My area is generally RF/Analogue electronics,Electro magnetics and the application area is MRI signal acquisition, all experimental work. Not a lot of programming unfortunately. I hope to do some in the due course just keep my skills alive.
