Existing research - how to research this

A

Hi,

I'm just drawing up my first proposals before a meeting next week.

I'm aware I need to research what existing research there is around my topic, which will be in gender studies / social science. Although I have some awareness of existing research and what the gaps may be, I haven't done this thoroughly yet and will need to ask more about how the college/supervisor would like me to approach this.

But I wondered meanwhile whether there were any online databases of existing research that anyone had found particularly useful and would like to recommend ?

Thank you, Alison

"sociological abstracts" is one imo quite useful database, here is a description: http://www.csa.com/factsheets/socioabs-set-c.php

In order to access it, I think your university will have to have a subscription to it, perhaps check with your uni library.

Hi Alison

Your library should have a listing of the databases used for each discipline. Have you had a good look at their website? When I did women's studies, I mostly used Women's Studies International, Proquest, PAIS, and Sociological Abstracts.
