Finishing early and paying back grant?

B

Long story but I'm funded by the ESRC I may finish my PhD ahead of schedule. If I finished 3 or 6 months early, would I be expected to pay that portion of my grant back? I can't find any info in the funding guide.

Thankyou!

Hi Button,

I'm not sure if your funding is similar to mines. I get funding from the EPSRC through a Doctoral Training Account at my university. So the money actually comes from the university each month. If I finish earlier than the time I have been provided funding for, my funding stops immediately (unfortunately!). If you're getting funded in advance, then perhaps it's different. Maybe your University might be able to find out for you?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear was I! I get paid quarterly, so I'm just wondering if (for exanple) I got paid in January and finished in February, would I have to pay March back? I imagine I would but it isn't clear!

Ahh, sorry I couldn't help.

Hey Button,

My PhD was scholarship funded, but I finished 3 months early and wasn't asked to pay anything back even though I had received funding for the final 3 months. Couldn't tell you about ESRC though, perhaps you'd be best checking with them.

Best, KB

Thanks KB, you did come to mind when I thought of this. I imagine if I finished shortly after my final installment then they wouldn't ask for it back, but if I finished before the final installment then I wouldn't get it. Will chase it up though anyway!
