Funding, Visas and Work Permits

G

Hi,
I am getting UK tuition + Maintenance for my PhD, but I have to manage my overseas tuition. Will it be possible to earn around 8000 pounds a year working with a student visa? I am an asian male student. Is it possible to get some sort of office job within the University?
Also, is it difficult to convince the visa officer that I will be returning to my country? What kinds of documents do I need?

Recent changes make it easier for international students to work whilst studying in the UK. There are a few conditions you should keep in mind:

- You cannot run your own business, be self-employed, provide services as a professional sports person or entertainer, or pursue a career by taking a permanent full-time position.

- With the exception of work organised by your university or college, money that you hope to make while doing part-time or vacation work cannot form part of your visa application. You must show that you can meet the cost of studying and living in the UK without employment or financial assistance from the state.

Check the Immigration and Nationality Directorate web site for further details.
