How do I compare entry requirements in different countries?

G

I am a M.SC. student from Italy and am going to look for a phd after my graduation next january. I have some questions regarding some of the phd programs I have read and I was hoping to get some help here. First of all one of the requirements is that you must have a b(i) degree, or its equivalent, how can I calculate my degree to this scale? Secondly the money that university offers to these candidates how much tax regarding to UK's law is paid?

Students from outside the UK can check whether their qualification is equivalent to a UK 2(i) degree by contacting The National Academic Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom www.naric.org.uk. There is a charge for this service. As a rough guide a 2(i) is the second best mark available for a UK undergraduate degree. It is likely that an MSc would give you the required level of qualification, providing your undergraduate degree grade was not a poor one.

If you qualify for a UK research council studentship then this will be tax free. Studentships funded by other means may be subject to tax, due to varying scales for people on low incomes in the UK the percentage of tax paid in these cases will depend on the salary offered.

would not it be much easier if everyone adopted the same simple /100 scale ???
