Leeds or UCL?

G

I am a Canadian who is thinking of going to Leeds or UCL for transportation studies. I have never been to either, can anyone give me some info and good advice re the above mentioned cities?
Oh, and GO LEAFS GO!

G

UCL is more reputable but London is awfully expensive place to live if you are on a budget like most students.

G

Yeah, out of the two UCL is much more well known. However if you're studying PhD level it matters less where you study to a degree and a lot more who you study with (and hence will publish with initially).

G

London is very expensive. My friend studied at Leeds and loved it. But DanB is right, it depends on who you want to study with.

G

Thanks, Mia. You're not so bad yourself ;-)

G

Unfortunately for you its Wednesday, which I believe is Stu's day to have me!

G

Yeah Dan, back off!!

G

I have studied at UCL and am now in Leeds. For me there is no contest, Leeds wins hands down. It has a thriving student community and in terms of research, is one of the best universities. Also, I live with two housemates who are doing transport. One is doing the M.A. in Transport economics and the other is doing the M.S.c. in transport planning. They appear to be having a great time and the course is both challenging and rewarding. All the best. Hope to see you in Leeds soon

G

Thanks for all your input everyone. Barry B, what do you think about the city life? Is it mostly students? Are there cultural activities? Can I get a decent vegetarian meal?

G

Maple leaf, you can get a decent veggie meal pretty much anywhere in this country (except very random isolated locations), it's the best place in the whole world for vegetarians! I reckon you should go to Leeds, you could always travel to london as part of your studies?

G

I've never been to a vegetarian restaurant. Can you recommend anywhere in Nottingham ?

G

No, I dont know nottingham at ALL! Most restaurants do have a veggie option however, some better than others.

G

What if I am a vegan (Lactose hates me) Still viable?

G

See my post "Canadian Journal of Physics" in the PhD life section - I can't believe you're Canadian! You're bound to have Canadian Journal of Physics...

G

What is the specific journal article you are looking for. Our Canadian library is a little backwards, so I may not have access (I am not in Physics) but I can try :)
